President Trump has signed a controversial Executive Order baring immigration from 7 nations. This has become know as a Muslim ban. Write a 5 paragraph essay on your feelings towards this order. Do you agree with part or all of the order, does it make us safer, is it really a Muslim ban, do you think the president should have the power to issue such an order (if not who should be able to protect our country)? (2 points)
Iran recently tested a ballistic missile. Write a short essay about your feelings towards Iran's nuclear program. Should they be allowed to developed a peaceful nuclear program under the new deal or should Iran's actions and words of the past ban them from developing such technology? (1 point)
Find a map that will make Mr. Ray say "wow" this map can be unique in whatever way you decided. You must write a paragraph clearly explaining what the map is trying to say. Think about why you think Mr. Ray would find it neat. ( 1 point )
The 1960's saw what became know as the "British Invasion" in American music. In 1964 the greatest music group of all time the Beatles made there debut on the Ed Sullivan Show and changed the world. Mr. Ray's favorite Rolling Stones song is called "Sympathy for the Devil" listen to it and write three paragraphs about it. One about what the song is about, one trying to explain what you think Mick Jagar means by the lyric "I rode a tank, Held a generals rank, When the blitzkrieg raged, And the bodies stank", one on your opinion of the song. President Trump has said that the "One China" policy is up for negotiation. What is the One China policy, what is its history and importance today. Write a paragraph about each of those topics for a total 4 with the final paragraph being about your opinion on the situation. (3 points)
International law: The recent arrest of drug lord El Chapo has made international news. The question now is where should he be tried? He has escaped from Mexican jail before and many in the United States want to see him face justice in this country. Research his case and write a 3 paragraph argument for how he should be treated. Where should he be tried? What should be his punishment? Who should pay for the proceedings? (3 points)

To get credit for watching these movies you need to write 3 paragraphs One on a sort of a review of the move, one on what you learned and finally look at solutions to the issues that the documentary raises. (3 points)
There is an unusual campaign that started in New York City called "Free the Nipple". The campaign tries to argue that it is unfair that women are forced to cover up in public while men can go topless. Some feminist believe that it is cultural biases like these that make women feel like second class citizens. Other of course would argue that we have to protect "morality". Write 3 paragraphs one on the campaign, one on your opinion on the subject and one on the idea of government being in charge of deciding what is moral (should government have morality laws). (2 points)
Chelsey Manning was recently pardoned by President Obama for turning over top secrete information to the site WikiLeaks. Write a paragraph about how you think the situation should have been handled do you agree with Obama's decision? Also write a paragraph about the unusual situation of Chelsey changing into a women while in US custody. Should we pay for the medical expenses, should she be allowed to do this while being a prisoner and what prison should people like Chelsey be held in. (2 points)
The football players at the University of Northwester in Chicago have unionized. The players are arguing that they are not "students" but "employees" of the university. That they make money for the school and spend more time than a student does working for the university. Look at both sides of the argument and decided where you come down on the issue. Write 4 paragraphs on the topic articulating your argument for why the side you are on is correct. (3 points)
The F-35 Joint Strike Fighter is the most expensive piece of war equipment ever built. It has coast us taxpayers $400 billion dollars and is still not complete. Research about the plane and tell me why it is so far over budget and behind schedule. Also write about if you think the jet is worth the price tag or not. 3 paragraphs (3 points)
For this extra credit students will have to think hard about what kind of things matter to them as it pertains to where they live. What kind of weather, population, climate matter to them. Would they like to live in a mountainous region or perhaps they would like a costal region. Students will write 3 paragraphs about what state and city they would move to if they had to move inside the United States. What part of the country they would like to experiences if they left the valley and why. Students will also be writing 3 similar paragraphs about a city and country they would move to if they moved outside the United States. Below is a guide for what to write in the paragraphs.
One: What things matter to you when you think about moving? What factors are the most important? Use these listed reasons to revile where you would move inside the United States.
Two: Write about what qualities the new city you have decided to move to has that helped you decide this was the place you wanted to move. This might take a little research on your part as to what your chosen city has to offer.
Three: Talk about the differences between your “new home” and the valley. Even though they are in the same country and maybe even the same region talk about how you think your life will be different if you lived in this new place.
Four: Talk about what country you would live in and why if you where to move outside the United States. Again this might take some research on your part to learn about what your future home country will be like.
Five: Talk about the difficulties you think you might face in this new country. Is there a language barrier? Are there standards of living the same as the United States? Do you think you will eat the same type of foods? Perhaps you would like to look at what school is like in your new country.
Six: End your paper with your feelings on moving. Would you like to do any of these things in real life? Do you want to live in Arizona forever? If you where going to move do you think someday you would move back? If you have moved states before perhaps use this paragraph to talk about the difficulties in that transition. ( 6 points)
Listen to one of Malcolm X most famous speeches: The Ballot or the Bullet or The House Negro and the Field Negro. Write three paragraphs about what you think about Malcolm's message and how he speaks. Write three paragraphs about your reaction and what you think the message is.(2points)

Hawaii is trying a new program for those people having trouble with the law. Its a new tactic of probation. Watch this PBS report and find out more information on the program. Write 3 paragraphs on the program including one on why you think its a good or bad idea, and should Arizona start a program like this one? (2 points)

A recent report released by the White House Council on Women and Girls stated “No one is more at risk of being raped or sexually assaulted than women at our nation’s colleges and universities.” The report says that 1 in 5 female students are assaulted while only 1 in 8 report it. The study also did a survey where 7% of college men admitted attempting rape, and 63% of those admitted to multiple offenses for an average of six rapes each. Look at the report and summarize its findings. Pay close attention to the proposed solutions starting on page 19. Write at least one paragraph on the 1 is 2many campaign.
